140 Castello Tricerchi
The Castle was built in the thirteenth century on the Via Francigena at Montalcino by the Altesi and completed in 1441 by the Tricerchi family.
It covers 6,000 m² (65,000 ft²) and is a typical example of a medieval castle with a fortified keep, decorated with motifs attributed to Baldassarre Peruzzi.
Over the centuries, the castle has offered refuge and protection to pilgrims taking the Via Francigena to Rome.
In 1982, the Tricerchi Castle was officially recognised as part of Italy’s historical and artistic heritage..
At the restaurant chef leads a team of professionals who work together to express the heritage of the land through dishes that are communicated in a different and original way so that they stimulate curiosity… with this “Tuscan but creative” special menu in pairing with Castello Tricerchi wines.

A relaxed tour through the castle, the cellars, the vineyards, which ends with a tasting of Brunello in the historic guard room.
The tour starts from the ancient main entrance, to visit the entire castle walls and reach the bridge of Baldassare Peruzzi, early 16th century, and the Chapel of the Virgin of the Veil which still preserves the relic of the fragment of the veil of the Virgin.
The central part of the visit are the noble vineyards and the ancient medieval cellars.
The visit ends with a guided tasting of Brunello in the guard room, where the visit began.
The wine tasting is paired with our Extra Virgin Olive Oil and some Montalcino’s charcuterie and Pecorino (sheep milk) cheese produced by our neighbour.
Then our beloved guests will have a marvellous tailor made perfect wine pairing lunch in an incredible panoramic restaurant, on the top of the hill right next to that of the Castle.

Castello Tricerchi covers 400 hectares (1,000 acres) on the northern slope of Montalcino, 13 (32 acres) of which are dedicated to Sangiovese Grosso (the Brunello di Montalcino grape variety), and dedicated to the production of Brunello di Montalcino and Rosso di Montalcino.
At the center of the property stands the spectacular Castle in ancient red bricks.
With its interiors still left unchanged, only carefully and delicately restored while maintaining all the charm of the military installation on the Via Francigena, the Castle completed in 1441 by the Tricerchi family.
Today it’s the residence and company headquarters of the direct descendants, the Squarcia family.
